Chicago Divorce and Lawsuits

To retrieve a Cook County Divorce, Law or Chancery Case/Lawsuit Record requires a 2-step process. These records are not stored at the courthouse, only the index is. If a case is found in the index, the records will be transferred from an off site storage facility for viewing on another day. This process can take a few weeks. I charge a $10.00 fee for the index look up. The scanning charges are based on my hourly fee of $30.00/hour. I can typically scan around 30-35 pages in an hour, dependent upon how old the case is. The older the case, the longer it might take due to the fragility of the papers. A typical case takes around an hour to scan.

Please include the names of the parties involved in the lawsuit and the approximate year(s) it took place. If you only know one parties’ name, include that and what you know about the case (ex: “John Smith sued his unknown employer around 1892” or “Jane Doe divorced her unknown husband before 1930”) Please include any other information that you think may be beneficial for me to locate the case in the index. Thank you.
