Description
Buffalo’s Central Library has microfilms of early Erie County marriage records. For the period of 1837 to 1876 there are Justice of the Peace records; from 1877 to 1935 there are marriage certificates from the County Clerk. Information on a county certificate can include the groom’s occupation, and both persons’ ages, birthplaces, and parents. See the link below for a sample image. Information on a Justice of the Peace certificate is limited to the date, names and hometowns of bride and groom, and names of witnesses.
Note that the microfilms do have some gaps – for example, there are no certificates from December 1879 through May 1881.
