To find the ledger entry, the index films must be consulted, and these microfilms have considerable overlap of dates. Therefore, depending on the date of incarceration, several index microfilms will have to be searched before searching the ledgers microfilm. Sometimes up to 3 separate index films may have to be checked. Additionally, some convicts were listed by their alias, if they had one.
