Dear Marthmac, Death records/certificates were not required until the early 1900's and even then, I do not think they were monitored very strictly. Without knowing what part of Will County, we can offer these suggestions: The Coal City Library has a Will County death index and other resources, The Wilmington Library has an alphabetical obituary index, and the Morris Library has indexes and loads of other resources. The Joliet Library also has microfilm of the old newspapers if you find the actual date, they will do look ups. Also, check the Will County website, they have a lot of cemetery indexes as does the Grundy county website. On the Will county site they have a Necrology which has death listings of some residents, as long as you know the year it should not be too hard to search. http://will.ilgenweb.net/ http://grundycountyil.org/ If you think there might have been a will, or a probate record, you could check with the Joliet clerk for that record.
