About Me:

I am an avid genealogist with a love and passion for family history. I have been doing genealogy since 2000 and I find that every new piece of information discovered fills in clues about people's past and the lives they lived. And of course, there is nothing better than breaking through a brick wall or finding a new piece of information that no one else knew about! It is very rewarding and satisfying solving genealogical puzzles. My location is central to many research facilities as I live near a Church of Latter-day Saints Family History Center, the National Archives Great Lakes Region (NARA), the Cook County Courthouse and many Chicago libraries. I have experience at all of these facilities. One last item to mention is that I always treat others' ancestors as if they were my own. That means that I will use all of my resources and diligence to find whatever you are seeking as if it was for my own family tree. I cannot guarantee results but I can promise that I will treat your ancestors as if they were my own.

FAQ for this lookup

It's possible, but not guaranteed. The Petition may have taken place in another court. Was this person known to have been naturalized (NA) or just filed papers (PA) according to the censuses? If you'd like, I can take a look the next time I'm there which will be in 1-2 weeks. Regards, Kim

Hi Linda:

This case should have started locally in the Chicago Courts and then continued on in Springfield. There should be a case in the Chicago court index. But sometimes case papers were transferred down to Springfield to the Illinois Supreme Court and never sent back.

Ultimately, the case should be housed in Springfield since it went to the Illinois Supreme Court. It's possible that there are court papers in Chicago--but not guaranteed.

Also, you would need to know the names of the parties involved: "name of party" versus "name of party" in order to locate the case(s).

I would suggest contacting Springfield Archives since you know the case ended up there but again you would need to know the name of the case. The people down at the Springfield Archives are very friendly and great to work with, at least that has been my experience.

Please let me know if I can guide or assist you in any way.

Regards, Kim
