About Me:

I developed a passion for genealogy in 1975, and spent many hours at the Family History Library as a young adult. In 1999 I learned to read basic genealogical information in handwritten German records. Soon friends offered to pay for help with their immigrant ancestors. In 2009 I began studying for a Bachelor's degree in German at the University of Memphis.

Genealogical Training, Certifications, or Society/Association Memberships:

FAQ for this lookup

I have not explored this area, but I would be happy to work on the problem. I have done some Prussian research in the past, including renamed localities.
You may need someone to write letters or e-mails to the archives in Sachsen. That is a level of German I have not reached yet. I see the FHL listing for Sankt Catharin Altstadt (old city). Further down the list is kirchenbuchduplikat 1808-1874 for Katharinenkirche Magdeburg. Could this be the church you need? Another resource I have just learned about but not explored is the Genealogisches Handbuch bürgerlicher Familien and Deutsches Geschlechterbuch, German lineage books from the late 1800s. The Newberry Library in Chicago has copies. The staff at the Family History Library may be able to provide more direction about their holdings. http://www.familysearch.org/eng/library/fhl/frameset_library.asp?PAGE=library_services.asp
Susan, the Family History Library has civil registration microfilms for Till, Rheinland, Germany 1798-1875. The films include records from Louisendorf (Kreve) and Schneppenbaum, Qualburg, Hasselt, Riswick, and Moyland. Katrina Thomas' 1851 birth is in the range of one of the microfilms. I will order it on Thursday. The earliest microfilm covers the birth years of both Katrina's parents. I can order it as well if you believe they were also born in this area.
I will order the Plauen microfilm of ahnentafeln and guild records on Thursday, Jan 6. I saw that you helped found the jewishgen website. Shtetlseeker is one of my favorite resources, so thank you!
