I will visit the Circuit Court Archives in Chicago to search either the plaintiff or the defendant indexes (up to three years*) for Circuit Court and Superior Court divorces that took place between 1871-1963.
If I find a match, I will request that the files be brought to the Archives (they're stored off site) so that they can be viewed and/or copied. (Once you have the file number from the index, I can provide color scans of the records for $10 + $.50 per image or you can request paper copies directly from the Archives.
If I'm able to locate a match, I will provide you with the pertinent index information. If I'm not able to find a match, I will provide you with a detailed explanation of how and what I searched. Important: Some of the indexes c. 1930-1940 are nearly illegible. If I find that I can't read the indexes well enough to do your search, I will decline the lookup.
*This three-year limit pertains to the indexes that are hand-written and not alphabetical. I'm willing to search a few more years in the indexes that are computer-generated and alphabetical. Let me know what you need and I'll see if I can help.
I can visit the city for research every couple of weeks but because divorce lookups are a two-step process, it may take up to a month for me to provide scans from a file.
I can also handle other types of research at the archives through custom requests. (see link below for holdings) If you have questions, just send me a message through this site. Thanks! Cynthia
Fee if I find the record you requested: $10.00
