Chicago, Cook County Criminal Court Records Index Search (Step 1), 1871-1983 from kimstankiewicz

To retrieve Cook County Criminal Court Records a 2-step process is required. The criminal court records are not stored at the courthouse, only the index is. If a criminal court case is found in the index, the records will be transferred from an off site storage facility for viewing on another day. This process can take a few weeks. If I find a file # for you in this step which is Step 1, I will then refer you to submit a request under my "Chicago, Cook County Criminal Records Retrieval (Step 2)". I will then go back to the courthouse once the file has arrived, view it, digitally color scan it for you and upload it. Regarding your request, I will look in the index to see if the person in question is listed. If found, I will then ask you to order my Cook County Criminal Court Records Retrieval (Step 2), at which point I will go back to the courthouse to view the file and make a digital copy for you.

Fee if I find the record you requested: $10.00

Fee if I don’t find the record after a thorough search: $10.00

FAQ for this lookup

Hi Linda:

This case should have started locally in the Chicago Courts and then continued on in Springfield. There should be a case in the Chicago court index. But sometimes case papers were transferred down to Springfield to the Illinois Supreme Court and never sent back.

Ultimately, the case should be housed in Springfield since it went to the Illinois Supreme Court. It's possible that there are court papers in Chicago--but not guaranteed.

Also, you would need to know the names of the parties involved: "name of party" versus "name of party" in order to locate the case(s).

I would suggest contacting Springfield Archives since you know the case ended up there but again you would need to know the name of the case. The people down at the Springfield Archives are very friendly and great to work with, at least that has been my experience.

Please let me know if I can guide or assist you in any way.

Regards, Kim

Yes, I may be able to find something on it. I could check the Chicago Tribune archives and see if any articles were published. I could also check the crminal records to see if there was a case against him. Please let me know if you would like to proceed with either and we could set something up. Please let me know if you have any additional questions. Regards, Kim
